The school was named after Blessed Anne-Marie Rivier, a founder of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Rivier College was established by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1933. The site of the first campus was at Hudson, New Hampshire. In 1941, the college moved to Nashua, its current location. In 2012, the school became Rivier University.
